Bank Donates $90 Million Goods, Cash
STANDARD Chartered Bank has donated goods and cash worth over $90 million to
various organisations in Manicaland and Mashonaland West provinces.
The bank donated goods worth $75 million to Mutare Provincial Hospital and
$20 million cash to Rukoba Primary School and disadvantaged pupils in Zvimba
district.
Rukoba Primary School, which is in a newly resettled area in Zvimba
district, received $10 million which would be used to build a classroom
block.
The other $10 million would be given to 20 disadvantaged pupils in
Mashonaland West who would be selected with the help of the Ministry of
Education, Sport and Culture.
In a speech read on his behalf, the Governor for Mashonaland West, Cde
Nelson Samkange, commended the bank for its support to the community.
"Your continued support to communities through your other community
initiatives is also very much appreciated by those who benefit from them and
it is my hope that you continue with your good work.
"I also hope that other companies will take a leaf from some of your
initiatives like the community month and the 'Seeing is Believing'
campaigns," said Cde Samkange. The governor also stressed the importance of
involvement by companies in the fight against HIV/Aids.
"Government alone cannot win the fight against Aids, we need everyone at
every level in the community playing a part for us to be successful.
"Your effort therefore in the fight against HIV/Aids by providing
information to your staff and customers on your Aids day and the facility of
providing anti-retroviral drugs to your staff and their immediate families
are truly commendable."
Mr Samuel Nhakaniso, the bank's executive director for corporate banking,
said his organisation was committed to helping newly resettled people and
would continue to assist them in every possible way.
